Dot's Butterscotch Brownies

This recipe is also from Gena Knox's Southern My Way. The baking has got to stop! I don't know what has gotten into me lately with all the baking! I also served these during the GA/FLA game party we had at our house. Once you start with one of these, you can't stop! My brownies definitely didn't turn out very pretty, but they tasted great!

Dot's Butterscotch Brownies
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup pecans, chopped
- 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional) (I added the chocolate chips, but I don't know if you would miss them if you didn't add them)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl and set aside. Stir sugar and butter in a large saucepan over low heat until melted. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Whisk in eggs and vanilla. Transfer to a large mixing bowl an stir in flour mixture, 1/2 cup at a time. Fold in pecans and chocolate chips (if using) and pour into a greased 8 1/2x11-inch baking dish. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until tester inserted in center comes out with a little gooey batter attached. Let cool and cut into 2-inch squares.
