Shower, Fishing, Convention...Oh My (Lots of Time in the Car)

This weekend I drove to Atlanta Saturday morning for a shower honoring Meredith in Suwanee, Georgia. The shower was thrown for her by her mom's friends. They have been friends for over 25 years! I have no doubt that all of us will still be friends in 25 years! It is so hard to believe that we have already been friends for almost 8 years! Time sure does fly by! It was so nice to see everyone and visit, even if it was only for a few hours. The shower was so nice-wonderful food, Meredith got lots of really nice gifts, and great friends-what more can you ask for?

While I was having a girls' day, Davis was having a boys' day. He and some of his friends got up at 4:15 a.m. (I just don't get it) to go fishing down the Flint River. Davis and his friends had a blast and caught a bunch of fish! By the time I got home that afternoon, he was exhausted! We got in the bed Saturday night with good intentions of watching Shutter Island (I won't get into how weird and disturbing movie that is), but neither one of us saw the ending!

On Sunday morning, Davis and I got back in the car for some more driving! We headed to Amelia Island, Florida, for our annual summer GHCA convention at the Ritz Carlton. We ate some lunch, and checked into our room. When we got to our room, we realized we had a suite. Davis and I kept looking at each other asking who had booked this?!?! I don't think I have ever stayed in a suite besides the Marriott Residence Inn! Once we got settled in, Davis headed to a meeting, and I headed to the pool. While checking in with GHCA, they asked him how we liked our room, and they told him they upgraded us because Davis deserved it. He is such a hard worker and does a lot for GHCA. Not only is the association proud to have him, but so am I!

I had plenty of pool time, but the weather was unusually hot, so on Tuesday I headed to Jacksonville for a little shopping. If you are ever in Jacksonville, you must check out the St. Johns Town Center. It is an outdoor mall (don't wear jeans in June like I did-I had no idea it was outdoors until I got there!) and has all kinds of stores!

On Tuesday night, Davis and I decided to have a low key night, and we ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel, Salt. It was amazing! And Davis thought it was a great idea to tell them it was my birthday (just a little early)!

On Wednesday, it was back to the pool for some sun and heat. That night, we wanted to do something for our employees that were there with us, so we took them and their families to eat at Joe's 2nd Street Bistro.

It is bittersweet to get back to reality. I miss having no schedule, sleeping late, laying in the sun, but I am so happy to be back with my dogs, my own home, and a normal eating schedule!

  1. Sounds like y'all had a ton of fun! I missed seeing everyone this weekend :( I love Amelia Island - I think we should do a couples' trip there at some point!
